Visual Critique II: Week 2

Humpback whale
Snowy mountains
People holding tarp of the ocean
Ocean floor
Sky with clouds

This picture is fascinating. I believe the significance of it is that oceans and ocean life, such as whales, are under human control to an extent. Humans can choose whether to pollute ocean waters or help save animals within them. The humans are holding a tarp because they can choose to save the humpback whale and protect it in its environment.

  1. I think the tarp, pictured pushing up, makes a nice counter balance to the mountains, which cup down in a bowl.

Notice how the highlights in the mountain snow pull our eye upwards initially, allowing us to focus on the whale. Then we can look down and take in the details in the shadows, finally focusing on the bare, and somewhat frightening (to me) ocean floor.
