Scratch Assignment II

This is my second piece for the Scratch Assignment for Digital Media Foundations. I have never really created a piece like this, something so abstract and modern. I feel like it was dragged out from my subconscious somehow.
The word, transitions which is in the left hand side of the piece, refers to my life right now. I have been currently making many changes in my life, including possibly changing schools and going to the University of Oregon, social, academic, and personal changes. Also, I went through incredible transitions this summer, when I went to Guanajuato, Mexico for study abroad. I came back a different person. My blog title, Una Werita en Exploracion, refers to Mexico and means A Little Blond in Exploration. One might find it funny that I refer to myself as a blond, but in Mexico, there was a sort of identity associated with being blond. This identity and characteristic was not negative, as being blond is associated as in the US but rather something admired.
The black and yellow moon also symbolizes the word transitions. Moons go through phases and shifts, similarly to a person. I feel like I am like the moon, going through shifts and transitions in a myriad of ways that will ultimately benefit me.

  1. I like the simplicity of this, which intensifies each element. Nice use of bold colors, too.

I had a hard time advising Mike how to make a crescent the other day (I kept wanting to do it in Illustrator), so I might ask you to discuss how you made these.

That's interesting about being blond in Mexico. More proof that differing cultures "read" our physical traits differently. I wonder if this might go all the way back to Spain? The light/dark woman motif in Anglo culture (take, for instance, Jennifer Aniston & Angelina Jolie) (sp?) goes all the way back to Victorian England.
